As fashion changes each season with new interpretations of old looks, the designers and editors introduce new forward-thinking trends while ceremoniously announcing the death of a few of our faithful closet favorites.
However, there are a few legendary women’s fashion mistakes that will put you in the Fashion Hall of Shame quickly. Here’s a short list of two fashion mistakes that should be avoided at all costs.

Clothing and Accessories Fashion Faux Pas #1 – Don’t wear the holidays.
Once September rolls around, I tremble in anticipation of the pumpkin, turkey, jungle bell and Christmas tree sweaters worn by misguided women.
Wearing a holiday-themed outfit, jingle-bell earrings, fancy holiday sweaters festooned with ribbons, bells, sequins and intricate embroiders is a woman’s fashion mistake of epic proportions.
Decorate your life, not yourself.
Shoe Fashion Faux Pas # 2 – Plastic shoes. Plastic shoes. Plastic shoes.
One single abomination that desecrates all things Manolo Blahnik, and Christian Louboutin, is wearing Crocs. Only small children, people who cannot afford orthotics and the elderly, should wear them.
Not anyone who considers themselves a fashionista would ever wear plastic shoes. Wearing crocs is a woman’s fashion mistake.
The only exceptions to the plastic shoe rule are Havianas and Old Navy flip-flops.
A Few Fashion Faux Pas Honorable Mentions
1) Resist wearing the denim tuxedo. If a woman wears head-to-toe denim or an outfit consisting of: a jean jacket, jeans, a jean purse and a jean hat, she is a walking fashion faux pas waiting to happen.
The timeless fashion rule is to wear one piece of denim at a time.
2) Are you matching your shoes to your handbag?
Unless you are a First Lady at a Southern Baptist church or a prissy Junior League member, swathed from head-to-toe in Lily Pulitzer matching your clothes to your bag is a fashion mistake.
In the end, a well-dressed woman would rather wear open-toed sandals coupled with a 2-month old pedicure, than become the biggest fashion faux pas.
As a ranking member of the fashion police, I hereby deputize you, to dispense citizen’s arrests and fashion tickets for all the people in your life who commit fashion faux pas and these unforgivable crimes of fashion mentioned above.
